In the wake of last night's unimaginable tragedy that has befallen our school community, we find ourselves grappling with profound sorrow. Although this incident occurred off campus, it was close enough to have an adverse effect on the school event that was taking place. We value everyone's safety and concerns; the remaining home basketball games will be played away or at a neutral site. As a resilient community, we will rise above the grief that weighs heavily on our hearts. Let us channel our sorrow into a shared commitment to support one another so we can heal and emerge stronger and more compassionate by standing united. As a precaution, we will provide extra security for Bogalusa High School when school resumes on Tuesday, and grief counselors will be available for staff and students. The Lumberjack family extends our sympathy and condolences to the students' families. We appreciate the phone calls, emails, and support from school districts, citizens, and stakeholders. The Bogalusa City Schools family is deeply saddened to inform our school community of the tragic incident that occurred during a basketball game tonight, resulting in the loss of one of our students and the injury of another one. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this devastating loss. Our top priorities are the well-being and safety of our students and spectators, and we are working closely with local authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. To the Covington Lions, your safety was our top priority, and we appreciate your patience. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to everyone impacted by this tragedy and will do everything possible to assist and support those in need.

Today, Bogalusa City School District held an NBA (Never Be Absent) Campaign to help promote attendance. This meeting is designed to inform you of the progress that we have made with LEAP data and the goals for the upcoming school year. We would also like to solicit suggestions and support from each of you regarding our school goals and reaching those goals.

Our School Nurse, Mrs. Kristy McNabb, nominated our school to win the The Big Bandage Bonanza @keepgoingfirstaid. We were 1 of the 20 schools to be selected. With the win, we received 5000 latex free bandages and a Superkit First Aid kit. Don’t forget… tomorrow evening from 5-6, come celebrate Literacy Night with the Spartans. The students will receive their free fall book packs from Scholatic, families will get to learn about the Louisiana Department of Education’s Families Literacy Library, get a library card for the Washington Parish Library Bogalusa Branch, learn about the Friends of the Library, gain access to your students Jcampus Parent Portal, and engage in many activities in the areas of literacy! Free dress pass for each student present, door prizes, food, fun and more. We sure hope to see you there!

BCS Celebrates National School Lunch Week The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. #NSLW23 will be celebrated October 9-12, 2023.
